Applying for a Permit

It is free to apply for conveying permit and exportation permit. You only have to deal with one authority, no matter what kind of object it concerns - the National Heritage Board. The permit is valid one year after the date the decision was made.

  • First of all, you need to get application documents from the National Heritage Board. Note that you need two different forms if you want to export the object outside European Union. You have to attach two pictures of the object to the application. Look below for information about who to contact and to what address the application should be sent.
  • The documents are fowarded from the National Heritage Board to the permit authority which is responsible for that object category. You must see that the object is accessible if the authority wants to inspect it.
  • The waiting period can vary depending on which permit authority handles your errand. A tip is to apply in good time, at least four weeks before you plan to export the object.
  • If you get a negative answer on your application, you can appeal at the county administrative court. The appeal could also be tried in the administrative court of appeal.
  • Those who export an object without permit can be convicted according to the Law of smuggling. Both smuggling and attempt to smuggling is punishable. If you are convicted for smuggling an object, the object will be confiscated. The sentences range from fines to two years' imprisonment, or for serious crimes, six years.
