Planning

The landscape is changing constantly. But when the landscape is faced with major, sudden changes, for example when a new road or railway is going to be built, the consequences for the landscape and its various values must be described in specific planning documents.

It's important to safeguard the landscape's cultural heritage during new construction projects, so that tales of the olden days can still be told in the future. We all have a responsibility to safeguard this and see it as an asset and a starting point for planned changes.

The Swedish National Heritage Board provides support and guidance

Since 2006 the Swedish National Heritage Board has been tasked by the government to support and guide municipalities and county administrative boards in their work on planning documents. We work to find methods to better describe and explain cultural heritage in the landscape.

The Swedish National Heritage Board cooperates with other agencies on planning issues. In order for this cooperation to function smoothly, it is important that cultural heritage issues are integrated at an early stage of the planning process for new infrastructure and buildings and in regional development work.
