Conference – Dyes in History and Archaeology 2022

The DHA-conference was a hybrid event arranged by the Swedish National Heritage Board on site in Visby, in October, 2022. Participants from all over the world enjoyed the workshops and the guided tours on site as well as the lectures offered both on site and digitally.

Dyes in History and Archaeology (DHA) is an annual conference which attracts conservators, curators, (technical) art historians, craftspeople, artists, independent scholars, scientists and academics from museums, universities, research centres and other public or private institutions. The event focuses on the discussion of historical colourants. This was DHA’s 41st conference and was arranged for the first time in Scandinavia. The topics included the history, production and application of dyes and organic pigments, as well as their analytical characterization and identification.

DHA41 was organised with a financial grant from the Marcus Wallenberg Foundation for International Scientific Cooperation and with support from the Swedish National Heritage Board.

Abstracts, posters and publication

The book of abstracts is published in DiVA, the peer-reviewed articles are published in a MDPI Heritage special issue and the posters are available for download on this website.
